Motor Cross legend Jimmy Button to raise awareness for spinal injuries

Jimmy Button, a one time motor cross champion, suffered a severe spinal injury during a Super Cross event in San Diego in 2000.  Button suffered traumatic injuries including nerve damage to his spinal cord that now prevents him from being able to feel temperature and sweat.  In the eleven years since the injury accident, Button has worked to recover from the injury.

Last year, Button begain training for a cross country ride, which he hopes will raise awareness for victims of spinal injuries in motorcycle accidents.  He began using a stationary bike to build his muscles before transitioning to an outdoor bike by August.  Button plans to ride from San Diego, the site of his near fatal accident, to Daytona Beach, Florida.

Because of his condition, which he will never fully recover from, Button will only be able to ride about sixty miles per day and will be monitored by a medial team.  He plans to begin his cross country adventure on Februay 20, 2011.
