NCAA Faces Lawsuit Alleging Lack of Protection for Athletes from Head Injury

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is getting some unwanted attention in a time when Brain Injuries and football players is becoming more and more of a problem. Two former college football players have filed a lawsuit against the NCAA claiming the collegiate board failed to protect players from head injuries by allowing the coaching practice of 'lead with the head' tackling. The players on the forefront of the legal action are former University of Central Arkansas wide receiver Derek K. Owens and former Northwestern University offensive lineman Alex Ruck. The players through their suit claim the NCAA knew about the coaching practice but failed to intervene, turning a "blind eye" to the coaching practice which happens all across the country. The suit also claim the NCAA has failed to present a satisfactory screening program to test players for possible head trauma during games.
Owens and Rucks claim they suffered from concussions and developed chronic headaches, dizziness and mental and physical problems as well as doctor bills for the illnesses after their college years were over. The suit is open to represent other college athletes who suffer from the same chronic symptoms as the result of their college athletic days.
