Thanks to the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, victims of TBI may have a new and anonymous way of assessing whether or not they have a head injury that should be treated. A new web based screening tool known as the Brain Injury Screening Questionnaire can offer a initial assessmtent for victims of possible traumatic brain injury. Dr. Wayne Gordon, PhD began developing this tool over 20 years ago, while working with school children. During his work he realized a great number of them were suffering from TBI and because of abuse or assault, these injuries weren't being reported. More recently the software has been used to help diagnose and test soldiers returning from the war in the Middle East.
The BISQ software is a web based tool that allows victims to anonymously answer questions about their head injury to determine if they need further treatment. The anonymous survery asks questions about the mental state as well as sleep patterns, memory selection, ability to carry out daily routines and organization. When the test is finished, a report is generated and if the victim is considered at risk, they are advised to see a doctor or neurologist for further treatment.
The software is only $15 for the software and can be purchased through the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
