Officer Accidentally Shot and Killed after Training in St. Joseph, MO.

An officer preparing to leave a training facility was accidentally shot and killed when another officer's gun discharged.  The accident happened on September 15, 2010 in St. Joseph, Missouri.  Officer Dan Kraai, a five year veteran of the St. Joseph police force was among several other officers finishing up a training exercise, when the gun accidentally went off and shot Kraai in the back.  Kraai was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The training exercise did not include live rounds, however its not uncommon for officers to re-load their weapons following exercises like this one.  The officer responsible for the shooting is on administrative leave during the investigation into the accident.
