Officials Investigating Cause of Head-On Collision between Two Platte County Fire Trucks

A head on collision between two Central Platte County fire trucks sent five fire fighers to the hospial with serous injuries. The two-vehicle crash happened on Monday May 9, 2011 near the 15000 block of HH Highway.

According to officials from the Platte County Fire Departmen, both trucks were responding to a structure fire reported at 4:08 a.m.

The injured five firefighters were hospitalized with severe, but non-life-threatening injuries. Four of them were taken to an area hospital on the ground, while another was airlifted by helicopter to an area hospital.

So far officials have been able to condluce that while both trucks had come from the same fire station, one of the trucks missed the driveway for the house. When that truck turned around and came back towards the driveway, the head-on collision was unavoidable.

Two of the firefighters, Kevin Burge and Al Ryan, were treated at area hospitals and released. The other three firefighters, Larry Bigus, Kent Pine, and Carl Foreman, are being treated at area hospitals for their injuries.
