A 50 year old woman in a wheel chair was struck by a Dayton police cruiser, responding to an nearby accident. The woman was riding in a motorized wheelchair, crossing the road on James H. McGee Boulevard and Second Street. The crash happened on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Dayton, Ohio.
According to official reports from the scene, the police officer was responding to a non-emergency crash at Bridge Street when the pedestrian injury accident occurred. Reports indicate officer was reportedly traveling at a normal speed but did not have his lights and sirens on. The woman was hospitalized for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The police officer suffered bruises and scrapes but is expected to be fine.
