One in hospital after driver falls asleep at the wheel and hits tree

In Kansas City on Thursday, a van hopped a curb, hitting a fire hydrant and a tree after the driver of the vehicle fell asleep at the wheel. The accident happened clost to 8:45 in the morning near the intersection of 30th and Benton Boulevard. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries. Damage to the fire hydrant flooded the intersection for about an hour before it was controlled.
