OSHA Investigating Fatal Steel Plant Accident that Killed 22 yr.-old Worker

A 22-year-old worker was killed in an industrial work accident when a 6,000 lb. steel bar fell and crushed the worker at the Acme Galvanizing Plant in Milwaukee, WI. The employee was identified as Benjamin H. Alcorn, a crane operator at Acme Galvanizing, was subsequently crushed under the bar.

According to the report, the bar was not properly secured when it was attached. Reports also indicate Alcorn was not in a designated area that operators are supposed to stand in.

The fatal work accident will be investigated by the Milwaukee Police Department, the Milwaukee County district attorney and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Acme Galvanizing has been inspected the factory three times in the past 10 years, by OSHA for four different violations.
