Overland Park family saved during home fire by carbon monoxide detector

An Overland Park family is safe today, having survived a home fire thanks to their carbon monoxide detector.  The fire happened at a residence in the 8500 block of Russell in Overland Park, Kansas on Wednesday December 29, 2010.  Fire department officials say the fire was electrical and since it was above the house's smoke detectors, the fire alarms never went off.  The carbon monoxide detector however, did its job, sounding its alarm and waking the family at 7:30 a.m.
