Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in Kansas City, Kansas

Residents of a house in the 500 Block of Shawnee Road called police to report a man lying in the front yard.  When police arrived, the man was already dead and authorities believe he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.  Rogelio Vargas, identified by family members, was a lifelong resident of the area.  Family members indicated that he wandered the neighborhood living with different friends and family members, and led a transient lifestyle. 

The street where Vargas was killed has a 25 mph speed limit, but according to neighbors, that speed limit is regularly ignored.  Shawnee Road is also a narrow street with no sidewalks, increasing the danger to pedestrians.  Anyone with information about this accident is encouraged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
