Pedestrian on Cell Phone Struck by Car after Walking out Into Traffic

A pedestrian was killed when she was hit by a car crossing a street in Bakersfield, California on June 9, 2011. The fatal pedestrian accident happened near the Citizen's Bank on California Avenue. According to Police, the 39-year-old woman was making a call with her cell phone when she walked into one of the southbound lanes of California Avenue.

A pickup truck slammed on its brakes to avoid hitting the woman. This caused the woman to run into another lane, also to avoid the collision. The woman tripped and fell into the path of an oncoming Ford Mustang and was hit by the car. The woman died at the scene of the accident.
