A suspected drunk driver led police on a chase in the early morning hours Thursday morning in Belton, Missouri. Belton police tried to pull over the vehicle around 2:30 a.m. under the suspicion of drunk driving, but the driver refused to stop his car.
The chase began and involved Grandview police a short time later. At the intersection of East 155th and North Scott Avenue, Grandview police used "stop sticks" to detain the vehicle. The driver, however, swerved around the sticks towards an officer. The officer, a 25-year old, 3-year veteran on the force, shot at the car.
The vehicle was hit, but the driver was not injured, and the car proceeded through the intersection. Stop sticks were again used just north of East 125th and northbound 71 Highway. This time the vehicle was successfully stopped and the driver was arrested.
