Police in Kansas Conduct Safety Inspections to Limit Preventable Auto Injury Accidents

Police Officers in Johnson County have been out in force lately in an attempt to make the roads and highways in Kansas safer. In a joint effort with neighboring departments the Police have been conducting random vehicle safety check points. Multiple agencies across the Kansas City metro area have been checking commercial vehicles for safety concerns, including working brake lights, secured towing equipment and properly covered trailers. The safety checks are in response to recent accidents that have seen one passenger killed by loose debris.

"We want to make sure that the vehicles they're driving and the vehicles that they're towing are safe. And doing these compliance checks are just one way we can do that. And on top of that, we're looking for any stolen equipment," said Tom Erickson, Master Deputy of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department.
