Rhode Island Hospital Sued after Drill Bit left in skull of patient

A Rhode Island hospital is being sued after a neuro-surgeon accidentally left a 1/4" drill bit in a patients head during a surgical procedure on August 4th.  The surgeon and other members of the staff involved in the surgery gone wrong have been suspended pending an investigation.  The hospital removed the drill bit in another procedure on August 6th and the case was sent to the Department of Health.

This isn't the first time Rhode Island Hospital has had legal trouble in the neurology department.  In 2007, there were three separate cases in which surgeons operated on the wrong part of patients brains.  The hospital was fined $50,000 for the incidents.
