A dramatic spike in reported fever related seizures in children under the age of two have many doctors concerned it could be related to FluZone, a common vaccine for flu related symptoms. Since December 13, 2010, there have been 42 more fever seizures, also known as febrile seizures, than the yearly average. Preliminary investigations trace all patients to the vaccine FluZone, which is created by medical supplier Sanofi-Aventus.
While all of the children who have suffered febrile seizures have recovered, the Food and Drug Administration and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating the affects of the vaccine. Sanofi-Aventus is complying with the investigation. Representatives of the company recognize the higher number of reported fever seizures but feel there is no relation to the vaccine FluZone.
