Semi-truck overturns on I-470 in Kansas City after hitting ice patch

A semi-truck lost control and over turned this morning causing a busy highway intersection to close for several hours.  According to police a semi-trailer hit a patch of ice and lost control at around 3:30 a.m. on December 15, 2010 at I-40 near U.S. 71 and I-435.  The accident forced the highway to shut down for nearly three hours while the truck wreckage was cleared.  Reports indicate the truck turned over on its side and slide nearly 150 feet before coming to rest on a highway guard rail.
