A Kansas man, David Mathews, 27 of Topeka, Kansas is awaiting sentencing on a DUI charge that took place in Leavenworth County in September, 2009. Matthews was clocked driving 117 mph in a 70 mph zone by Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers.
Once the vehicle was stopped, troopers noticed a strong smell of alcohol on Matthews and requested he perform a series of roadside maneuvers. Matthews was unable to complete the request in a manner a sober person would and was arrested.
Matthews plead no-contest to the DUI charges. Sentencing will take place October 29th and Matthews could face up to one year jail time for his 7th conviction.
Matthews is currently in the Shawnee County jail awaiting sentencing on two recent DUI convictions. The Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles has suspended his driver's license.
