Soldiers Who Suffer From TBI and PTSD May Benefit From COPE Treatment

A new brain treatment developed in Austrailia may be able to treat diseases caused by traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder.  Because so many Australian soldiers have turned to illegal drugs after returning home from duty, Doctors have developed a treatment plan called COPE, which treats substance abuse as a disease in accordance with treating PTSD and TBI.  The survey began on Australian civilians but has proven affective on soldiers returning from action.

Recently, American doctors have begun using the COPE treatment method on over 90 American soldiers who have returned from military action in the Middle East.  The point of COPE is to reduce anger, stress, guilt and shame that oftent comes with PTSD.  The program has seen many cases that has helped cut back or eliminate the use of illegal substances altogether.
