For the third time in Missouri this year a school bus crash has led to a fatality. Eureka, Missouri, 25 miles southwest of St. Louis, was the scene of an accident involving a school bus and an SUV Thursday morning. The school bus was from Geggie Elementary School, part of the Rockwood School District, was carrying children on the morning route when it was struck by an SUV. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol it appears that the SUV was heading around a curve when it crossed over into the path of the oncoming school bus. Accident reconstruction experts are still trying to piece together the details of the crash.
The driver of the SUV was killed while the driver of the school bus, plus five children were taken to St. John's Mercy Medical Center for evaluation. The school bus driver and children were later released.
Earlier this year, also near St. Louis, two people were killed when two school buses slammed into a wreck on I-44. Just last week a 16-year-old St. Joseph boy was killed as he crossed the street and was struck by a school bus. Both of these accidents are still under investigation.
