Strangulation Hazard Prompts Stroller Recalls for Two Companies

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in conjunction with two different companies has issued two recalls regarding jogging strollers.  The first was announced on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 for strollers by Tike Tech, Ltd. which has voluntarily recalled approximately 800 Tike Tech Single City X3 and X3 Sport Jogging Strollers.  The strollers, as seen in the picture above left, pose a strangulation hazard if the child is not properly restrained.  The child may become trapped by the grab bar around the neck.  No injuries or incidents of this type have been reported, however the manufacturer felt the recall was necessary as a precautionary measure.  Tike Tech officials have asked consumers to remove the grab bar and contact Tike Tech for information on how to receive a complimentary replacement grab bar.  Tike Tech can be reached at 800-296-4602 or via email at recall@tiketech.com or online at www.tiketech.com

The second recall is of the Valco Baby Tri Mode Single and Twin Jogging Strollers as depicted in the photo above right.  The danger with this stroller is very similar in that the opening between the seat and the grab bar could cause an infant to become lodged at the neck, which poses a strangulation hazard.  The maker of this stroller, Unique Babe Products USA, LLC, also issued a voluntary recall on October 6, 2010.  For more information about this recall, consumers are urged to contact Valco Baby at 800-610-7850 or by visiting the website at www.valcobaby.com or email at recall@valcobaby.com
