Student Athlete at NWMSU Dead After Car Crash

A distance runner for Northwest Missouri State University, Waylong Martensen, is dead following a car crash along Missouri Route K, in  Moniteau County.  Bryce Pruitt, 20 years old, was the driver of the vehicle.  According to police, the vehicle ran off the right side of the road.  In an effort to get back on the road, Pruitt overcorrected, causing the car to go off the left side of the road, overturn and crash into a tree.  Both the Pruitt and Martenson were ejected from the vehicle.  Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

Martensen was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead Friday morning.  Pruitt was taken to St. Mary's health center, also with serious injuries.
