SUV crash near Topeka kills two adults; injures 4 children

An Olathe Ks. couple is dead after a tragic SUV accident on Interstate 70 near Topeka, Ks. on Wednesday afternoon.  Police say the accident, which happened close to 3:30 on Wednesday was caused when one of the tires of the SUV blew out, causing the driver of the vehicle, Myra Reyes, 25, to lose control.  Reyes was air lifted to a hospital, where she eventually passed away.  The passenger of the vehicle, Ricardo Lopez, 33, was trapped in the vehicle when the roof collapsed and died at the scene.

The couple was traveling with their four children who all suffered non-life threatening minor injuries.  Authorities on the scene said all passengers were wearing seat belts and proper child safety restraints.

"They were all conscious and appeared to have their composure," Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Karl Koenig said of the children. "They weren't crying frantically. They were just sitting there on the laps of the good Samaritans while (crews) were working."
