SUV Hits Quik Trip Gas Pump in Overland Park; Woman Suffers Serious Burn Injuries

A Kansas City woman suffered serious burn injuries in an accident caused when a Sports Utility Vehicle crashed into a gas pump, igniting a fire. The auto injury accident happened around 1:45 p.m. Saturday May 21, 2011 at the QuikTrip on 77th and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS.

According to officials from the fire depeartment, the accident was caused when the SUV back into the gas pump knocking it loose from it's base and striking the female victim as well as a car on the other side of the pump. The collision sparked a small amount of gasoline helping to fuel the fire.  The woman was hospitalized with severe burn injuries but her injuries are not expected to be life threatening. There were two adults and two children in the SUV at the time of the motor vehicle collision, but no one suffered any injuries. There is no indication from Kansas City Police on whether charges will be filed against the driver of the SUV.
