Friday morning before 8:00 a.m. an accident occurred at 31st Street near Indiana Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. The driver of a silver Buick Century crashed into a parked pickup truck along 31st Street. The driver reported that another vehicle came up from behind them, heading eastbound on 31st Street, and tried to pass her car across a double yellow line. The driver was then forced to swerve to avoid hitting the passing car when she hit the parked vehicle.
One passenger in the vehicle, the driver's 18-year-old sister was taken to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Authorities reported that it took 45 minutes to free the sister from the car. Another passenger, the 3-year-old daughter of the driver suffered minor injuries. The driver indicated that the child was strapped into a car seat when the accident occurred, but police did not find a car seat in or around the vehicle. The driver suffered minor injuries.
Witnesses said they did not see another vehicle that reportedly caused the accident and authorities are still investigating why the driver swerved into the parked truck. The truck was parked legally at the curb.
