Three Killed in Head-On Wreck Near Leavenworth

A tragic accident has taken the lives of three people in Leavenworth County, Kansas on Sunday.  A car driven by 32-year-old Mathew Nuzik of Basehor was attempting to pass another vehicle on K-32 between Linwood and Lawrence when he crashed, head-on, into another vehicle.  Both individuals in the second car, 21-year-old Daniel "Jake" Henry of Edwardsville and 22-year-old Stephanie Conn of Bonner Springs were killed in the accident.  Both Henry and Conn were students at the University of Kansas. 

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that traffic along the intersection where the accident occurred has seen a significant increase due to the recent opening of a new intersection of the Kansas Turnpike earlier this year. 

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that seat belts were used in at least one of the vehicles, but due to the violent impact, the seat belts were unable to protect the passengers.  The vehicle that was being passed by Nuzik was damaged in the accident, but no one inside that car was injured.
