Topeka Bicyclist Hit by Car Dies Despite Wearing Helmet

A 53 year-old man was killed while riding his bicycle on 53rd street in Topeka on September 12, 2010.  The accident happened around 5:30 on Sunday on 53rd near Kent Place.  The bicyclist was struck from behind by a man driving a Chrysler Pacifica.  The accident caused the bicyclist to crash into a ditch.  He died at the scene from a head injury despite the fact he was wearing a helmet.

Neither the driver of the Pacifica or his child passenger were injured in the crash.  It was not clear what caused the accident, which is being investigated by Topeka Police.  No citations had been issued at the time of the report.
