Two Killed in Head-On Collision In Gardner

Two people are dead following a head-on collision in Gardner, Kansas Wednesday just after 5:00 p.m.  Lisa Apperson, 41, was heading east on U.S. 56 with her three children when her vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck.  The truck was driven by 63-year-old Milton Whaley.  A 13-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the car, was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other children and the driver were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Whaley, who was also ejected from his pickup was taken to a hospital for treatment, but died around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

The highway was closed from Moonlight Road to Interstate 35 while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage from the scene.  The crash is under investigation.
