Two Major Kansas City Accident Sites Being Reviewed by Task Force

The city of Kansas City has put together a task force to study the traffic at 152 Highway and Flintlock and 152 Highway and Church Streets in an effort to reduce the number of accidents at these two intersections.  These intersections rank number one and three in the city's Top 20 Crash Sites list for 2010. 

The task force, consisting of Kansas City traffic engineers, patrol officers, and the Missouri Department of Transportation will study the problem and propose changes to enhance safety in these areas.  In 2010 there were 73 crashes at 152 Highway and Flintlock, followed closely by 61 accidents at 152 Highway and Church Street.  The two sites are only one block from each other. 

This particular area of Shoal Creek is faced with challenges as drivers are coming from an area of divided highway with high speeds into an area that is heavily congested with traffic.  Each day 30,000 cars travel along 152 highway.  The area is equipped with red light cameras and warning signs, but that is apparently not enough to prevent accidents.
