Two Men Killed in Kansas City Sunday Morning Police Chase

Two men, Matt Shacklett, 26 and passenger Trevor Olson, 29, both of Overland Park, were killed in a violent crash around 8:15 a.m. Sunday.  Police received reports of a car driving erratically on Ward Parkway.  Officers spotted the vehicle and began pursuit when the car, a maroon Mazda RX 7, turned from Ward Parkway onto Meyer Boulevard. 

Witnesses to the scene reported to authorities that the car appeared to be going between 80 and 100 mph.  Police followed the car, but called off the pursuit.  Police released the dashcam video of the incident which shows the car disappearing over a hill when the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing into two poles and a tree.  Both the driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends of the victims cannot think why the men tried to elude the police.
