Two officers injured in hit and run on I-70 near Topeka

Two police officers were injured in a bizarre accident on Interstate 70 near Topeka, Ks. on Wednesday.  The officers, who were on duty at the time, were part of a search unit looking for two people who fled after a traffic stop.  According to reports, the officers were on foot on the side of the highway with a police dog when a van struck a patrol car, which hit one of the officers.  Both officers were taken to the hospital where they were last listed in serious but stable condition.

After the collision, the suspect's van went off the highway and flipped over.  Both the driver and passenger of the van were also taken to the hospital, also with serious injuries.  Police say the two people that they were originally looking for were detained.
