Two Olathe teens die in fiery car wreck

Two Olathe, Kansas teenagers were killed early on Tuesday morning when the car they were riding in crashed into a light pole.
Seventeen-year-olds Andrew Riddle and Matt Honea, both students at Olathe South High School, were passengers in a car that was headed east on 151st Street and about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17. The driver had been speeding and lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the road at 151st Street and Glenwood. It hit a light pole and snapped it in half and then struck the corner of a garage. The car rolled several times before bursting into flames. The three occupants were trapped inside. The driver of the vehicle was pulled from the wreckage by a bystander. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The two teenagers died at the scene.
The car accident is under investigation. Police do not know if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Unfortunately, young men under the age of 24 are the most likely victims of fatal car crashes. The victims were high school seniors and only a few months away from graduation.
