Two semi-trailers crash near Dearborn, MO

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that Interstate 29 was reduced to one lane in each direction after two tractor trailers crashed in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 9.

The Missouri truck accident occurred at about 5:15am near mile marker 31.6 in the southbound lanes of Interstate 29. Sixty-four year old Larry Haberman of Lesterville, South Dakota was driving a 2004 Peterbilt big rig full of soda southbound when he pulled over to the side of the road to get something from his truck.

John D. Romines, 40, of Sabetha, Kansas was driving southbound in a 2007 Kenworth tanker truck full of milk. He drove onto the shoulder of the road and struck the trailer of Haberman’s parked soda truck.

The tanker truck continued down the side of the parked truck and off the right side of the roadway. The truck struck a guard rail, continued down the embankment and overturned. Romine was ejected from the truck. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

Haberman felt a jolt, but he told reporters that he did not know what happened until another trucker pulled up and asked if he was ok. He was not injured. His truck spilled its load of soda across both sides of the interstate.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. The cause of the semi-truck accident is under investigation.
