Worker Injured in Trench Collapse in Kansas City, Missouri

A Kansas City electrical worker was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries after being involved in an on the job trench collapse.  The work related injury accident happened on Wednesday April 6, 2011 at Northeast 33rd street and North Chouteau Trafficway, where workers were laying electrical lines.  According to reports one of the three retaining trench walls collapsed, leaving the worker buried up to his waist 15 feet deep in the ground.

Emergency crews managed to dig the man out but credit the was given to the three-tier system of building the trenchwalls to saving the man's life, otherwise he would have been crushed by the weight of all three walls.

OSHA is invetigating the cause of the trench collapse that caused the Kansas City worker injury.
