Young Worker Seriously Injured in Fall Accident at Construction Site Behind Elementary School

A 19 year-old construction worker was seriously injured in a fall accident at a construction site behind Good Elementary School in Carrollton, Texas on July 13, 2011. Reports from the scene of the worker injury accident say the young worker fell into a 55-foot-deep hole, which was said to be only about 30-inches wide.

Initially, there was concern that the young man was not getting enough air. To aid the situation, the Coppell Fire Department used a system to pump air into the hole for the victim.

Rescue workers were called to the scene to help pull the man from the hole. The captain of the Carrollton Technical Rescue Team was lowered in the hole on a rope system and harness to retrieve the victim. When the victim was rescued, he was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment on serious but non life threatening injuries.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was expected to investigate the construction site accident.
