A tragic accident caused the death of one driver and injured four others in an accident at 23rd Street and Cleveland Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri Monday afternoon.  A car with three women heading west on 23rd Street collided with a pickup truck that was southbound on Cleveland, causing the truck to flip.  The truck landed on the motorcycle that was stopped for a red light at eastbound 23rd Street.  The driver of the truck was killed and the motorcycle rider was severely injured, but is expected to live.  The three women in the car all suffered serious injuries.

Sadly, this accident illustrated several points we hit on at Roswold Law Group on a regular basis.  First, police indicated the accident was caused by one of the drivers running a red light.  We often talk about distracted driving, which could cause a driver to run a light.  Distracted driving is becoming one of the leading causes of auto accidents in today's driving environment.  Read up on distracted driving in our article, "What is Distracted Driving" for more information.  The second point is the lack of protection a motorcycle offers its rider.  In this case, a pickup truck overturned onto the motorcycle.  If that rider had been safely protected in a car, his injuries could have been lessened.
