A Sheriff's Deputy was seriously injured when a drunk driver crashed into his police cruiser last week in Tampa, Florida. The accideent happened when a drunk driver collided with Deputy Jason Schein's cruiser around 12:30 a.m. at Forest Lakes Boulevard and Pine Avenue. Unfortunately, the deputy suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Tampa police officials have said the deputy had pulled over another motorist for a routine traffic stop when Vera rear-ended the cruiser. The deputy suffered a severely broken arm in the accident.
Athorities say Vera's blood alcohol level was measured at .104 and .106 percent. Florida law presumes a driver to be impaired at .08 percent. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, DUI with property damage and DUI with injuries.
