Crackling fires, festive decorations, and warm conversation are all hallmarks of the joyful holiday season.  People gather together to celebrate and make merry at  Christmas parties.

However, not everything about the holiday season is jubilant.  According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years Eve is when drunken driving deaths spike.

There are a myriad of reasons for this alarming increase.  Chiefly, it is the time of year when a higher than usual amount of people celebrate  at parties where alcoholic beverages are served.

Data collected by the National Highway Traffic Safety administration in 2011 reveals that almost a thousand people were killed in accidents involving a drunk driver.

Here at Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys, we would never want to put a damper on your holiday spirit.  If you choose to imbibe in celebration of the holidays, we urge you to designate a driver in advance.

If you see someone that has perhaps made a little too merry, do not hesitate to take their keys and call a cab or arrange other transportation.  Help keep the holidays a jolly time for all and practice safe driving habits.
