Two Olathe Elementary School Girls Hit in School Parking Lot

Comments (0)
Heatherstone Elementary School in Olathe was the scene of a frighening car vs. pedestrian accident involving two 10-year-old girls and a teen driver recently.  Police reported that an Olathe East High School junior was looking for a place to park when the vehicle struck the two girls.  Emergency personnel responded almost immediately, as they wre already at the school for a fun run.  One child was airlifted to Children's Mercy Hospital for treatment of possible head injuries.  The other child was taken to an area hospital by a parent.  Authorities are still working to determine whether , the teen driver will be charged in the incident.

At Roswold Law Group, we are relieved the children will make full recoveries from this accident.  Sadly, accidents involving cars and pedestrians frequently have lethal outcomes.  Unforunately, school parking lots can be one of the most dangerous places for pedestrian accidents.  Children often dart out between cars, leaving drivers little or no time to stop.  Drivers are often distracted as they navigate these parking lots dropping off or picking up children or looking for a place to park.

Let's use this case where the outcome was fairly positive, to reinforce with all Kansas and MIssouri drivers the importance of paying attention, particularly around our area schools.
