Jude Thompson is no ordinary second-grader. His first and second-grade teachers were sure to notice how Jude always goes the extra mile to be kind to everyone he encounters. “He has heart about three times the size of his body,” said Jude’s first-grade teacher, Beth Derr, “His classmate (and best friend) has many special needs. But Jude never sees his peer as having special needs, he just sees him as he is - a friend. When his classmate needs help, Jude is there…It is endearing to watch as a teacher, and also a Mom; it makes my heart swell to know that he is taking care of someone who needs him.”
When Beth heard about Bikes for Kids, she immediately thought of Jude and nominated him. Saturday morning, KCAIA surprised Jude with his new bike at Midwest Cyclery, bringing Jude’s teachers and mother to tears. “I think we made [Jude] super happy, but the cool thing is how happy he makes everybody else,” said KCAIA owner James Roswold after presenting the bike to Jude. This was KCAIA’s 7th Bikes for Kids giveaway of the summer and the story was covered by KCTV5 News.
Nominate A Child For Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys' Bikes For Kids
The Bikes for Kids program provides one bicycle to a deserving child each week of summer, until late September. Bikes for Kids is asking parents, teachers, caregivers, and loved ones to recognize a child who has made a difference in the life of someone else by nominating them to receive a free bicycle from Midwest Cyclery, compliments of KCAIA. Midwest Cyclery will be donating a helmet and a lock to each winner. While there are no specific guidelines on what makes a nominee deserving of a new bike, we encourage nominators to think about any kind things that the child has done for others, or how the child has positively impacted his or her family, friends, community, or classroom.
